Trick or Treat?

As Halloween approaches, you may be thinking of making your own Halloween cards. If you are then this site has lots of cool Halloween card-making ideas for you!

Why not try this spooky 'jack-the-ripper-esque' greeting card idea? Great for the horror film fanatic!

If you know how to heat-emboss then you'll get some stunning results. The embossing powder goes hard when heated and creates a raised, spooky effect!

Difficulty Level: An easy Halloween card making idea (knowledge of heat embossing is needed)

To make this card you will need the 'Trick Or Treat?' slogan, which can be found in our Printable Halloween Card Making Kit here...

You Will Need:

• A plain folded black card (C6)
• The 'Trick Or Treat?' slogan from the Printable Halloween Card Making Kit here...
• Red mulberry paper
• Spray on glue (I used 3M's Spray Mount)
• A soft pencil (e.g. B as opposed to HB)
• Chinese red, and black embossing powders
• Clear and black embossing pens
• Embossing heat tool

1. Print it out! Open up the Halloween Card-Making E-kit [the what?] and print out the page that has the 'Trick Or Treat?' slogan on it.
2. Tear it! Carefully hand-tear a sizeable rectangle from your red mulberry paper. Use the slogan print-out as a guide, so that the end result is big enough to fit the slogan onto.
3. Spray glue it! Spray glue the back of the torn, red rectangle and stick it into place on your card.
4. Transfer it! Using your soft B pencil, scribble hard onto the back of the 'Trick Or Treat?' slogan you printed out. Then flip it over, position it over the red rectangle, and outline the slogan with a ballpoint pen, pressing fairly hard. Because the pencil led is shiny, you should just about be able to see the feint outline on your card, once it's been transferred.
5. Emboss it! Next you need to emboss the 'Trick Or Treat?' slogan.
   1. Draw over the phrase with your clear embossing pen in stages, so that you can sprinkle on the black embossing powder before the ink dries. Use the black embossing powder and your embossing heat tool to emboss the design onto your card as you go along.
   2. Once that's done, write over the slogan again with your embossing pen. Don't completely cover all the black embossed letters - leave room around the edges for the black embossing to show through. Emboss with the chinese red embossing powder as above.
   3. Repeat the step above (5.2) a couple more times, so that the slogan has a 'raised' effect. Although it's not clear in the photo, the final result should look a bit like bloody molten metal (nice!)
