Why Not Make Your Own Wedding Place Cards?

Have you ever considered making your own wedding place cards? It adds a unique personal touch - and can make lovely keepsakes.

This is such a simple and elegant design yet it's really easy to make. Here's how...

Difficulty Level: Beginner (knowledge of how to emboss needed)

• A plain white card (C6)
• Carbon paper
• Embossing heat tool
• Silver embossing powder (or gold if you prefer)
• Clear embossing pen
• A pen
• Edging scissors of your choice

1. Computer time! Select a font that has a 'classical handwriting' look to it and type out your whole wedding guest list onto a word processor such as Word.
   

   Tip: Don't like the fonts on your computer? Download some fonts and install them in the 'Fonts' folder in your 'Control Panel' (Windows).

   Adjust the font size accordingly so that each name spans approximately 9cm (use the wordprocessor's ruler as a guide). Print it out.
2. Transfer: Use your carbon paper to transfer the names to your cards.
   

   Tip: Alternatively you can skip step 1 altogether and just handwrite the names yourself.

3. Border it! Trim the three edges of your cards using edging scissors.
4. Embossing: Draw over the name and along the edges with your clear embossing pen in stages so that you can sprinkle on the embossing powder before the ink dries. Use your embossing heat tool to emboss as you go along.
   

   Tip: How do you want the embossed edges to look? I drew very tight squiggles/zigzags all the way round the trimmed edges, so the inside of the embossed border has a slightly 'feathered' look about it. But you may prefer to just draw a thick neat line around the border with your embossing pen and emboss it that way, for a sleaker and more refined look.
