Handmade 30th Birthday Card With Personalized Embossing

Difficulty Level: Beginner (knowledge of how to emboss needed)

You Will Need:

• A plain white card (square-shaped)
• 1 gold skeleton leaf
• A strip of waxy tracing paper
• Embossing heat tool
• Gold embossing powder
• Clear embossing pen
• A selection of blue and brown patterned paper (this particular design uses paper from the Sara Papers collection)
• Spray on glue (I used 3M's Spray Mount)
• Scissors or a pen knife with cutting mat
• Pencil

1. Cut the four pieces of patterned paper to size. The glossy brown paper I used in this particular design needs to be a little over half the width of your card. The rest of the 3 strips should take of the rest of the space, all approximately of equal width. Hand-tear the left edges of each of the three thinner strips.
2. Glue: Spray glue the larger brown piece of patterned paper and stick that onto the card first. Then spray glue the other three strips, and stick them on, paying special attention to the order in which you stick the strips.

Tip: Of the three remaining strips, start with sticking the one closest to the middle first, and the strip on the edge of the card last.

3. Cut: Cut the waxy tracing paper strip to size. The width of the strip should be the full width of the card. In this particular design, the strip takes up approximately one third of the height of the card. But you can adjust its height according to what you plan to write on the strip.
4. Write your message lightly in pencil onto your strip of tracing paper. In the card example above I wrote: Celebrating 30 Fab Years Of [Name]!!!

Tip: Tailor your own message to the occasion. It needn't be a 30th birthday, or even a birthday for that matter! This card design is suitable for any occasion, from 'Thinking of you', to 'Happy Father's Day!'

5. Embossing: Draw over the phrase with your clear embossing pen in stages so that you can sprinkle on the embossing powder before the ink dries. Use the gold embossing powder and your embossing heat tool to emboss the design onto the waxy tracing paper as you go along.
6. Glue: Spray the back of the embossed tracing paper with glue and stick it onto your card.
7. Spray glue & position the skeleton leaf.
