Make Halloween Cards

Halloween Paper Crafts And Printable Decoupage

It's All Gone A Bit Batty!

Do you want to make some haloween cards? (Haloween is a common mispelling for halloween.)

This is a spooky card making idea of three 3D bats and lots of blood!

Ready to make some scary bat cards for halloween? Here's what you need and the card making directions...

Difficulty Level: Advanced Card Making

To make this card you will need the bat images, which can be found in our Printable Halloween Card Making Kit here...

You Will Need:

  • A plain folded white card (C6)
  • The bat images and the 'Happy Halloween!' slogan from the Printable Halloween Card Making Kit here...
  • Craft knife or scissors
  • Spray on glue (I used 3M's Spray Mount)
  • PVC glue
  • A soft pencil (e.g. B as opposed to HB)
  • Red and black embossing powder
  • Clear or black embossing pen
  • Embossing heat tool

How To Make This Halloween Card (Featuring 3D Bats)...

  1. Print it out! Open up the Halloween Card-Making E-kit [the what?] and print out the page that contains the images of the bats. Also print out the page that has the 'Happy Halloween!' slogan on it.
  2. Cut it out! Carefully cut out three different bat shapes (including one small one), from your print-outs.
  3. Transfer it! Using your soft B pencil, scribble hard onto the back of the 'Happy Halloween' slogan you printed out. Then flip it over, position it on the bottom of the front of your card, and outline the slogan with a ballpoint pen, pressing fairly hard. Because the pencil led is shiny, you should be able to see the feint outline on your card, once it's been transferred.
  4. Emboss it! Next you need to emboss everything.
    • make haloween cardsDraw over the phrase with your clear embossing pen in stages, so that you can sprinkle on the red embossing powder before the ink dries. Use the red embossing powder and your embossing heat tool to emboss the design onto your card as you go along.
    • Once that's done, write over the slogan again this time with your black embossing pen. Don't cover all the red - the black is there really, to just make sure it's legible. Emboss with the black embossing powder as above.
    • With your clear embossing pen, draw some spatters of blood dripping from the top of your card. Emboss with the red embossing powder as you go along.
    • Color in the bat cut-outs with your embossing pen and emboss with the black embossing powder.
  5. Tip: This is tricky because the bats are so small - for each bat, I had to emboss half first, holding the other wing with the end of a pen while I used the heat tool. Don't burn your fingers now!

  6. Bend & glue it!
    • Bend the wings of two bats (including one small one), so that the embossed side of the wings bend towards you. Put a small dab of PVC glue near the top left corner of the card, and stick the bat's body to it. Repeat for the smaller bat, positioning it near the slogan.
    • Tip: Make sure the wings are not glued down so that they bend up, away from the card.

    • For the remaining (middle) bat, bend the wings away from you. Put two small dabs of PVC glue on the underside of each wing and stick inbetween the other two bats. This bat's body should be sticking out.

And voila!
