How To Make Christmas Cards

Green Tinsel Heat-Embossed Christmas Tree

Want to know how to make Christmas cards?

If you know how to heat emboss and have a few faux gems handy, then why not try this cute little Christmas card out?

Difficulty Level: An easy Christmas card making idea (knowledge of how to heat emboss needed).

To make this card you will need the blue-backed Christmas tree image, which can be found in our Printable Christmas Card Making Kit here...

You Will Need:

  • A plain blue folded card (square-shaped)
  • The blue-backed Christmas tree image from the Printable Christmas Card Making Kit here...
  • Blue mulberry paper
  • Several circular silver and green faux gems
  • 1 silver star-shaped faux gem
  • Green tinsel embossing powder
  • Clear embossing pen
  • Heat embossing tool (also known as a heat gun)
  • Spray on glue (I used 3M's Spray Mount)

How To This Make Christmas Card...

  1. Print it out! Open up the Printable Christmas Card Making Kit [the what?] and print out the page that contains the blue-backed Christmas tree design.
  2. How To Make Christmas CardsTear it!
    • Carefully tear along the inner edges of the blue design, so that approximately 1cm of the outer light blue border is left. Make sure the corners are slightly rounded.
    • Carefully tear a square of mulberry paper, so that it's slightly larger than the rectangle containing the Christmas tree image.
  3. Emboss it! Next we need to create the tinsel effect embossed design.
    • With your clear embossing pen, draw along the two sides of the Christmas tree image. Carefully draw four small squiggly lines, curving upwards, on your Christmas tree. One line should be along the bottom edge of the tree and the top line should be just below the top, leaving enough room for the star gem. The other two lines should be of equal distance inbetween. Do this in stages, so that you can sprinkle on the green tinsel embossing powder before the ink dries. Use the green tinsel embossing powder and your heat tool to emboss the design onto the paper as you go along.
  1. Spray glue it! Spray glue the back of the blue mulberry paper and embossed blue rectangle. I used 3M's Spray Mount glue.
  2. Mount it!
    • Fix the mulberry paper to the right side of the card first (leave a little space between the edge of the mulberry paper and the edge of the card).
    • Then stick the Christmas tree image on top, in the center of the piece of mulberry paper.
  3. Glue blobs! Draw 2 vertical lines of glue blobs to the left side of the blue mulberry paper square.
  4. Fix faux gems! Stick the green faux gems to the outer line of glue blobs, and the silver faux gems to the inside line. Stick the silver star on top of the tree to finish it off.

And voila! Now you know how to make christmas cards - well one anyway!
