Holiday Card Ideas

We All Scream For Ice-Cream!

Fun holiday card ideas : Yum! Check out this cool summer holiday card idea of a yummy ice-cream cone .

This is a very easy card making idea that's great for the summer holidays.

For this card design, it's all about the layers! Find some luscious handmade paper, cut three cirlces, a large triange, and you have an ice-cream cone for your center-piece!

If you don't know how to heat emboss the message, then handwrite it yourself. There's nothing like a handwritten message - that's part of the magic of making handmade cards after all!

Difficulty Level: Beginner

You Will Need:

  • A plain white card (C6)
  • Spare card
  • Pink, brown, cream and beige colored handmade paper
  • Embossing heat tool
  • Gold embossing powder
  • Clear embossing pen
  • Foam squares
  • Spray glue (I use 3M's Spray Mount)
  • Scissors or a craft knife
  • A compass or cylinder (e.g. pill box)

Steps For Making This Summer Holiday Card Idea

  1. Emboss! Let's emboss the 'Happy Holidays!' message onto the spare piece of card. Either use your computer to print out 'Happy Holidays!' onto some card, or write it freehand. Draw over the name or phrase with your clear embossing pen in stages so that you can sprinkle on the embossing powder before the ink dries. Use the gold embossing powder and your embossing heat tool to emboss the phrase onto your card.
  2. Trim it! Trim the embossed phrase.
  3. Circle it! Draw a circle on the pink, brown, and cream colored handmade paper, using a compass or by simply drawing round a cylinder such as a pill box. The diameter of the circles on the card is approx. 4.5cm. Cut the circles out.
  4. Cone it! Draw a large triangle on the remaining paper and cut it out. My cone was about 8-9cm high.
  5. Spray-glue it! Spray glue the pieces onto your card, making sure you stick the pink circle and the triangle on first, and the cream-colored circle on last.
  6. Foam-squares! Fix some foam squares onto the back of the small, embossed 'Happy Holidays' piece of card and stick it over the bottom part of your cone.

And voila! An ice-cream cone card that looks good enough to eat (urrr... but not quite).
