If You Like This Idea For Making Your Own Greeting Card, Here Are The Directions...
-
On your computer: Open a word processing package up (like Word) and type out 'glamour puss'. Select a font you like - I used a handwriting style font. Adjust the size of the font (so that it will span the full height of your card) and then print it out.
- Transfer: Get your piece of card (10.5cm by 15cm) and place the carbon paper on top of it (face down). Then place your print-out over the top. Make sure it's positioned correctly on the card and then draw over the phrase with a pen. Alternatively, you can just copy the font style (freehand) onto the card with a pencil.
- Felt tip pen: Now draw over the phrase on your card with your pink felt tip pen.
- Cut material: Cut out a piece of pink organza voile that is slightly larger than your piece of card.
- Spray glue: Spray glue the material and stick that onto the piece of card. I used 3m's Spray Mount glue.
- Tape: Carefully fold the edges of the material over the back of your piece of card. If the spray glue doesn't sufficiently stick the material down enough, tape it down with a couple of bits of sticky tape. You could also use glue dots.
- Embossing: This is the tricky part because if you
get too close to the organza voile with your embossing heat tool,
you'll burn a hole in it. It just takes a second for that organza
voile to disintegrate, so pay careful attention!
The
phrase you created on your piece of card should be showing through,
underneath the organza voile. Draw over the phrase with your clear
embossing pen in stages, onto the organza voile, so that
you can sprinkle on the embossing powder before the ink dries.
Use the holographic powder and your embossing heat tool to emboss
the design onto the organza voile as you go along. - The voile will tighten slightly as you emboss it with the heat tool. This means that it may separate from the card a little. Don't worry about this, as this will give the design a more '3D effect'.
- Glue: Spray the back of the piece of card with strong spray glue and stick it onto your folded white card (I coated the back of the piece of card with a couple of layers of 3M's craft spray glue for this final step).
Tip: Don't like the fonts on your computer? Download some fonts and install them in the 'Fonts' folder in your 'Control Panel' (Windows).
Tip: Do not hold the embossing heat tool too close or the organza voile will disingerate!
And voila! The beautifully chic idea for making your own greeting card comes to life! There are lots of examples of handmade cards you can make, based on this design. Why not play around with the positioning, style and colour of this card example to add your own personal touch?
