How To Make It ...

  1. Print it! Open up the the printable 'Funky Christmas' eKit [the what?] and print out sheets 'funky-xmas106', 'funky-xmas146', 'funky-xmas172', and 'funky-xmas208' onto paper.
  2. Cut it!
    1. Grab your green card stock and draw a circle of 14.5 cm diameter. Cut the circle out.
    2. Grab your white card stock and draw a circle of 13 cm diameter. Cut the circle out.
    3. Cut out a circle from the sheet 'funky-xmas172', 12.5 cm diameter or slightly smaller than the white card stock circle.
    4. Cut out a circle from the sheet 'funky-xmas106', 12 cm diameter or slightly smaller than your 'funky-xmas172' circle .
    5. Draw around the angel image from the sheet 'funky-xmas146' (about 3 cm away from the angel) and cut out the circle.

Tip: If you find it difficult using a compass to draw a circle, search around your house and find something with a perfect flat back round shape in various sizes such as saucers or desert plates to be used as a circle template. Draw around the plate onto card stock and paper, and then cut out the circle.
  3. Outline it! Load the tip of a cotton bud with a little bit of ink and lightly dab over the edges of the circles, except for the 'funky-xmas106' circle. Tip: A felt tip pen or crayon would also be useful to make a similar effect around the edge of the circle.
  4. Glue it! Glue the backside of the printed circle from 'funky-xmas106' to the backside of printed circle from 'funky-xmas172', so the printed patterns are shown on each side.
  5. Divide it! Draw a circle (about 7 cm diameter) onto the center of the printed side of the circle from 'funky-xmas 106' (the circle should cover the whole angel image from sheet 'funky-xmas146'). Divide it into 8 parts, so it would look just like a pie. Here is how to split the circle into 8 parts:
    1. Draw a line along the diameter (horizontally).
    2. Draw another line along the diameter, only now in upright position from the first one (vertically).
    3. Draw 2 more lines along the diameter, just about midway from each of the previous parts. Now you have 8 equal parts with 4 lines. It's done!
  6. Cut it! Once you have drawn the 8 parts, use your craft knife and metal ruler to cut along the 4 diameter lines
  7. Fold it! Pick out each cut part from the center and fold it backwards, so you would have 8 printed 'funky-xmas106' triangles showing in the middle of the 'funky-xmas172' circle. We'll now call it your 'folded topper'.
  8. Outline it! Apply ink along each edge of the 8 triangles.
  9. Add brads! Attach each corner of the 8 triangles to your 'folded topper' with brads to the 'funky-xmas172' circle.
  10. Glue it!
    1. Glue the angel image onto the white card stock circle, in a centered position.
    2. Glue the edge of your 'folded topper' to the white card stock circle. Make sure the angel is shown entirely, in the middle of the 8 triangles.
  11. Stick it!
    1. Mark the stitching points with pencil about ½ cm apart along the edge of your 'folded topper' (this will be 'the lower side').
    2. Then mark more stitching points along the white card stock, just above the edge of the 'folded topper' (this will be 'the upper side'), forming the cross pattern as shown in photo.
    3. Pass the needle and thread in and out according to the marked interval, first on the lower side and then diagonally across to the upper side. When the stitching work is done, you will have your 'stitched topper'.
  12. Glitter it! Apply glitter glue to the angel's wings and let it dry. Tip: You can always make your own glitter glue by mixing glue and fine glitter, or as an alternative, you can make a sparkling effect by using a gold or silver gel pen.
  13. Add lace! Cut a 12 cm piece of long lace and stick the bottom to the upper back of the 'stitched topper'. Align the lace with the angel image.
  14. Glue it! Glue the 'stitched topper' with lace to the green card stock circle.
  15. Add pearls! Grab the pearl pin and insert 2 more pearls under the head pin so that they get 'bigger' in size.
  16. Add more lace! Tie a piece of lace at the end of the pin, and then stick the pin on to the 'stitched topper'.
  17. Cut it! Grab the printed sheet of 'funky-xmas208' and cut out the words 'Be Merry' in a rectangle shape.
  18. Outline it! Apply ink to the edges of the 'Be Merry' shape.
  19. Mount it!
    1. Mount the 'Be Merry' sentiment onto a piece of white card. Cut it out again, leaving a slightly wider white border. This will be called your 'sentiment topper'.
    2. Mount your 'sentiment topper' onto the card, next to the angel image.
  20. Add spots! For the finishing touch, add some white gel spots around the circle, just above each triangle.

What can we say? Isn't this circular Christmas Angel design the cutest? How can you not 'Be Merry' (as the sentiment says) when you look at it? Awwwww!

We just love this funky Christmas card making idea. The bright and merry colors, the fantastic circular structure, the folded back frame, the stitching, the hat pin with pearls... all of these elements work together to make a stunning card. Go ahead and try it yourself!
