A Bright Birthday Craft And Card Idea
Lime Green Skeleton Leaf Design With Gold Personalized Embossing
Birthday crafts and card ideas : A fresh white and lime green card design, personalized with gold embossing and decorated with bright pink and orange skeleton leaves. Check out how to make this birthday craft and card idea below...
Difficulty Level: Beginner (knowledge of how to emboss needed)
You Will Need:
- A plain white card (square-shaped)
- 1 bright pink and 1 bright orange skeleton leaf
- Embossing heat tool
- Gold embossing powder
- Clear embossing pen
- Lime green patterned paper (this particular design uses paper from the Sara Papers collection)
- Spray on glue (I used 3M's Spray Mount)
- Scissors
- Pencil
How To Make This Birthday Crafts Card Idea
- Cut & tear: Cut out a rectangle from the lime green patterned paper with your scissors. Carefully tear the edges of your rectangle for a 'hand-torn' look. Make sure you keep the torn top and bottom edges (needed for the card design). You should now have the central (hand-torn) rectangle and the top and bottom strips (straight edge on one side, hand-torn edge on the other).
- Glue: Spray glue the two skeleton leaves and the 3 pieces of lime green paper.
- Stick the skeleton leaves onto the large rectangle of lime green patterned paper, as shown in the photo above.
- Then stick the rectangle onto the center of your card.
- Carefully stick the top and bottom strips so that the straight edges are along the outer edge of the card and the handtorn edges are facing towards the center of the card. Use the photo above for guidance.
- Write the name (or message) lightly in pencil underneath the rectangle. In this particular birthday crafts card example, I wrote a name because the card was meant as a birthday card.
- Embossing: Next you need to emboss the name, and the top and bottom edges of the lime green rectangle.
- Draw over the name or phrase with your clear embossing pen in stages so that you can sprinkle on the embossing powder before the ink dries. Use the gold embossing powder and your embossing heat tool to emboss the design onto your card as you go along.
- Draw over the top and bottom of the handtorn edges of the lime green rectangle. Use the gold embossing powder and your embossing heat tool to emboss the lines onto your card as you go along.
Tip: You don't have to write a name! It can be an age - written in numbers or in full.
In fact, this birthday craft and card idea needn't be a birthday card. This card design is suitable for any occasion, from 'thinking of you' to 'best friend'. So you could write a word, a quote, or simple message instead of a name.
Tip: When you draw over the handtorn edges with your clear embossing pen, don't draw a straight line. Instead, follow the jagged torn edges. This will create a more interesting final design.
And voila! The birthday crafts and card idea comes to life!
